Not Accepting New Clients
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you're here.
I'm Tara, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Dunamis Psychotherapy. At our clinic, I’m committed to creating a compassionate, culturally sensitive space where children, young adults, and families can feel heard, supported, and empowered on their journey toward healing and growth.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings—including Jacobi Medical Center Psychiatric Emergency Room (CPEP), Riker’s Island, mental health clinics, and non-profit agencies. These experiences have shaped my approach to therapy, allowing me to bring real-world understanding and empathy to each session.
I specialize in supporting clients through perfectionism, high-functioning anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, and life transitions. My work is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—a practical, evidence-based approach that helps clients recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns. Whether you're facing internal pressure to do it all perfectly, navigating cultural expectations, or simply feeling stuck, I’m here to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
As a 1.5-generation Korean American, I’m passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in Asian American communities. I understand the cultural complexities many of us face, and I offer a space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and identity without fear of judgment.
In the past, I was deeply involved in advocacy as a community organizer, working on issues such as immigrant rights and legislative support for initiatives like the Dream Act and DACA. My experience as an advocate continues to inspire my work as a therapist, as I believe healing happens not just individually but through connection, within families, and within the broader community as a whole.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my church community, family, and close friends. These connections are a big part of what keeps me grounded and inspired, both in my personal life and in my practice.
If you’re ready to take that next step, our team at Dunamis Psychotherapy is here to walk with you on your path toward healing, resilience, and growth.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): I frequently use CBT to help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns and develop healthier, more empowering ways of thinking and coping. It’s especially effective for managing anxiety, perfectionism, and low self-esteem.
Mindfulness & Relaxation Techniques: I incorporate mindfulness practices, grounding exercises, and breathwork to help clients manage stress, improve emotional regulation, and build self-awareness—especially when navigating high-functioning anxiety or overwhelming transitions.
Trauma-Informed Care: My approach is always rooted in safety, trust, and compassion. I recognize the impact that trauma—both big and small—can have on a person’s sense of self, and I work to create a space where healing can happen at your pace.
Strengths-Based Perspective: I believe that each person has innate strengths and resilience. I focus on helping you reconnect with those qualities, even during times when they feel out of reach.
Culturally Responsive Therapy: As a 1.5-generation Indian American, I deeply value culturally attuned care. I understand the importance of honoring your cultural background, family dynamics, and lived experiences in the healing process.
